Notes for Abraham b’ Zadok Lappeman Petum (Gabriëls)
Aug 1734 Amsterdam on 27 Menachem-Aw appears before the trustees of the jewish community naaleh khr"r Abraham ben late khr"r Zadok z.l. and states that his spouse Gitche bat Azriel halevi z.l. will not have to take an oath on her ketuba, not at the time when he will be still alive and not after his death, and even when she will obtain authorisation and/or guardianship and will be dealing on property within our home and her ketuba might be in danger of being constricted, anyway she will be free of the oath and nobody can infringe on her rights, not I myself, neither our offspring nor anybody in our name, nor any debtor; and accordingly I have agreed with my son Gumprich m.h.l, that he shall have his spread bed and all my books, and nobody may argue against this; [however] my wife's ketuba will keep its strenght and will give my wife authorisation and empowerment to keep from my estate to any extent and in submittance according to her ketuba, as if she indeed took her oath before a rabbinical court; etc'. ®2 [source quotation: Mossel & Akevoth “Ashkenazi Amsterdam in the Eighteenth Century”]
