“Emanuel Goudsmit, known as Nolly Tate, was born in 1900 on his parents' circus in Germany. The family came to the United States in 1914 and joined Ringling Bros. Circus. In the 1920s Nolly left the family to go out on his own. He married Asta (Polly) in 1930 and they toured with a number of shows for many years.
