He and some of his descendants were followers of the false Messias Sabbatai Zvi and his prophet Nathan of Gaza. One of Menachem’s sons was (re)named after him:
# Nathan b’ Menachem Wesel (b. 1650). He and his wife Chana Korff (married in 1675) converted to catholicism. He changed his name once again, into Bernardus Emmerich.
