Notes for * [Baruch Daniel] Shmu’el b’ ? Goldschmidt Shtuckart segal
Shtadlan — mentioned as Schmoll Goldtschmidt in 1625 by his son Abraham ®35 — earlier (in 1618) mentioned as Schmull Jude — also mentioned as “Shmu’el Shtukert, Parnas throughout Hessen” by Glikl Hameln in her ‘Memoirs’ ®23 [he is the grandfather of her husband]
— [NB: the first two of his ‘given names [Baruch Daniel] should be considered as a prepostive (ceremonial) title, thus not as his regular/ordinary name(s) given at his birth — JG]
— [NB: as yet it is not established who his father was. In some genealogies [cf the Geni website] he and his frequently mentioned companion Liebmann/Lev are stated as sons of Moyse Petershagen [cf] and thus as grandsons of Isaac b’ Mostel Aschaffenburg Goldschmidt z Einhorn (d. 1559 Frankfurt) [cf] — in my opinion (JG) this direct parentage is rather unlikely — next to other objections at least there must be one generation more before Shmu’el and his assumed brother Liebmann — furthermore an entirely different parentage and lineage should’t be left out of the question, for instance via the other possible forefather Josef b’ Mostel Schwarzach)]
— [hereafter a Summary of correct facts, for a great part gathered by Randy Schoenberg and published, with referral to many sources, in the Geni website (last update 2022 april 28)]:

1606 or already earlier: “Schmuell undt Liebmann Juden” living in Hebenshausen (near Witzenhausen) ®35 — later moving to Witzenhausen, where both are mentioned on the Lists of the Jewish citizens who were paying protection money (“Schutzgeld”):
1618 “Schmull Jude” — together with Liebmann and 4 others ®35
1622 “Schmuell Jude” — on the next line his [possible] brother: “Libmann Jude”
further mentions:
1623 march 6, Kassel: in a complaint against the Jews “Schmoll” and “Liebmann” in Witzenhausen.
1624 in a court case document with reference to ‘the late Schmuel Goldschmidt in Witzenhausen and two of his heirs, Jost and Abraham Goldschmidt’
1625 february 24: a document referring to ‘the late father of Abraham Goldschmidt who had been Parnas of the Jews in Hesse’…..’and who was succeeded as Parnas later …. by Benedict Goldschmidt, who was living in Kassel’
1635 — Shmu’el’s son Jobst is mentioned by the above Benedict as his Vetter [which could mean in the 17th century as well his nephew as his cousin ®35 and even his relative in a broader sense]
— [All these facts considered in coherence: >Shmu’el/Schmoll and Liebmann/Lev/Leib must have been close relatives, but it is not certain that they were brothers. >Schmull might as well be the uncle of Liebman/Lev. >The name of their father(s) is found nowhere, as yet. >Furthermore the link between Liebmann with Benedict Goldschmidt b’ Yehuda-Leib Kassel and Benedict’s brothers is not wholly certain — etc]
