Notes for ** NN b’ ? (father of Jehuda-Leib/ Liebmann Goldschmidt segal)
NB — This virtual Person Sheet is part of a “hypothetical offspring construction” — one of the many possiblities to bridge a time gap in the lineage, between the son(s) of Mostel Goldschmidt Schaffhausen and later generations
As yet no one has succeeded to establish a complete lineage from the forefather Mostel b’ Josef Schaffhausen Goldschmidt to all of his later descendants. In particular, still a problem is the provenance of two [supposed] brothers Shmoel or Samuel (ca 1575-1624, father of a.o. Josef/Jobst Goldschmidt Hameln segal) and Liebmann or Lev (ca 1575-1627, (father of a.o. Baruch/Benedict Goldschmidt Kassel segal). These two are the progenitors of the many branches and subbranches of the numerous Goldschmidt family.
The given names of Shmoel and Liebman are mentioned together — in various spellings, in many lists, documents or acts, but in every instance their patronyms are lacking.
The same deficiency goes for one Maier Goldschmidt z Lilie , nicknamed “Rosskamm” (ca 1560-1630, living in Frankfurt and Kassel).
Their unknown fathers are the missing links in the lineage.
In several genealogies those missing links are filled up without enough valid arguments.
A better method would be keeping restraint and joining more than one option — suggesting several of the most likely amongst the countless parentage possibilities.
This inserted virtual father is a duplicated conjunction/link in six or more different lineage options, tracing back to six eventual ancestors, here named:
*Josef in Schwarzach
(b. between 1465 and 1485),
— son of Mostel Goldschmidt Schaffhausen z goldenen Schwan
bridging 3 to 4 generations
*Baruch in Schwarzach
(b. between 1495 and 1520),
supposed son of Josef Goldschmidt Schwarzach
— possible grandson? of Mostel Goldschmidt
bridging 2 to 3 generations
*Baruch in Frankfurt z Einhorn
(b. between 1535 and 1545),
son of Isaac Goldschmidt Aschaffenburg z Einhorn
— grandson of Mostel Goldschmidt
bridging 1 generation
*Moyse in Petershagen
(b. shortly after 1531?),
son of Isaac Goldschmidt Aschaffenburg z Einhorn
— grandson of Mostel Goldschmidt
bridging 1 generation
*Herts in Frankfurt z goldenen Schwan (or an unknown brother of his)
(b. abt 1530),
son of Jossel and Shprintz Goldschmidt z goldenen Schwan
— grandson of Mostel Goldschmidt
bridging 1 generation
*Maier in Nürnberg
(b. abt 1470, d. 1495), [NB: he died young, perhaps without children]
— son of Mostel Goldschmidt Schaffhausen
bridging 2 to 3 generations
NB: considering the length of the lineage gap to be bridged, this virtual father may in some cases represent more than one generation
